During many manufacturing processes, pumps are used to dose chemicals safely and regularly. An example of these chemicals is sodium hypochlorite and/or hydrochloric acid. Sodium hypochlorite is commonly used for the detoxication of cyanides and Hydrochloric acid for the neutralisation in water treatment.
In order to safely pump and transfer sodium hypochlorite and hydrochloric acids, a positive displacement pumping solution is recommended.
One option for the dosing and transfer of the chemicals is the Verderair air operated diaphragm pumps which can run against a closed discharge valve without a problem. Metallic and non-metallic constructions as well as various elastomer options are available, depending on the type of chemical being pumping. The rugged construction of the Verderair range offers leak free operation as there are no plungers or piston roads passing through the pressure boundary.
Another pump option is a drum pump. If you’re after a pump to transfer these chemicals from drums or IBCs, Global Pumps suggest a Techniflo Drum Pump. The construction of these pumps allows for easy transfer from IBC or drums and are ATEX certified for the most hazardous and corrosive of chemicals. These are a popular option in a wide range of applications, including mining, chemical manufacturing, food and beverage and water and wastewater treatment.
If you are dosing, consider using a Verderflex hose pump, as these pumps can handle chemicals that create gases. You can use a solenoid dosing pump but you will need to make sure you have a degassing head.
