With the consumer demand for increased flavours, fashions and fads only growing - companies are now producing more and more different product lines. As businesses expand product ranges, they need to recommission existing lines or are forced to suffer downtime whilst cleaning equipment. To avoid this, businesses are looking for effective cleaning methods, often referred to as Clean in place (CIP).
Clean-in-place (CIP) is the automated method of cleaning the interior of equipment without complete disassembly or major downtime. CIP is often used in the pump industry.
Companies working with perishable ingredients need to implement consistent and reliable methods of storage and production to not spoil ingredients and maintain a safe and hygienic production line. Modern CIP technology is tasked with removing all remnants of product A, to begin the process of product B. This involves ensuring no trace of solids, residue and microscopic elements such as yeast spores, bacteria and preventing E-coli. Removal occurs through mechanical and chemical measures, including the use of pressure, temperature, acids and alkali solutions.
The clean in place process is completed within 30 minutes and must be completed without the use of costly cleaning solutions, repeatable, possible control and monitor, automated and safe. This process places great demand on a pumping solution, due to the nature of the media. The pump must be able to handle highly corrosive chemicals up to 75oC, work at high pressures, be connected to an automated process, require little or no maintenance, be economical, have a small footprint and prevent ingress contaminants to the process.
Clean in place chemicals Cleaning fluids commonly used in pharmaceutical, cosmetic and food process lines include:
Global Pumps suggest the Techniflo Magnetic Drive Pump. With their magnetic-driven seal-less design, they are commonly found in CIP lines in the brewing, food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. Mag-drive pumps are suited to each stage of the CIP process, as they are 100% leak-free, even with aggressive chemicals at 75oC at pressures required for CIP.
