In North Carolina, Coddle Creek Water Treatment Plant has proven that Verderflex peristaltic pumps are good for dosing Powder Activated Carbon (PAC) from a wet well. Prior to switching to the Verderflex peristaltic hose pump, more than three submersible pumps failed in just over a year. The maintenance and operations personnel sought a more reliable alternative, and found the solution in the Verderflex Pumps.
The plant was having a problem finding a pump with good suction capabilities – up to 8 metres –and at the same time, was able to withstand the abrasive nature of the PAC. The plant called on Verder GPM to help find a solution.
The Regional Sales Manager, from Verder GPM for the Carolinas region recognised that the best solution for this duty would be a Verderflex peristaltic hose pump.
Using a flow paced controller, the Verderflex hose pump can transfer and dose variable flows in accordance with the plant’s demand and, by the nature of the peristaltic action, these pumps can gently pump abrasive suspensions such as PAC and lime slurries without the need for any check valves.
After studying the correct flow rate, suction and discharge pressures needed, a Verderflex model VF15 with its 15 mm internal diameter natural rubber hose was chosen. The VF15 is capable of short term flow rates up to 600 L/hr and continuous flows of 375 L/hr at pressures up to 12 Bar.
The main wearing part in the peristaltic hose pump is the hose. The unique reinforced hose technology was able to create excellent suction lift without problems. The pump can easily manage the 8 metre lift required by Coddle Creek.
The VF15 pump, which has now been installed for over a year, has clocked over 3,700 hours running time without any trouble whatsoever. The pump is still operating with its original hose!
