As replacement for Soft Rubber Lined (SRL) Centrifugal slurry pumps, Verderflex VF80 pumps were installed on a mine site where concentrate slurry with abrasive content materials is drawn from 3 areas – high grade very abrasive nickel concentrate, copper and nickel mixture, and copper slurry low in nickel that flows up to 359 liter per min(95-US-GPM), with up to 72% solids of density 4.29-4.97.
To reduce pulsation that result from slurry settling concerns, 21 US Gallons (80 litre), the discharge lines were fitted with Air domes. This also assisted to prevent chokes, as existing discharge lines were under-sized.
Suction line conditions were significantly improved through the installation of expansion bellows on the suction side. This in turn results in the typical hose life being 4,000 hours, unless lines are choked.
Metallurgists estimate their maintenance savings at more than 100 hours annually due to infrequent maintenance.
