CHALLENGE SOLVED AT A GLANCE

  • Application: Fermentation process for winemaking.

  • Challenge: Prevent damage to delicate berries during fermentation and ensure efficient, gentle handling for large-scale production.

  • Solution: Dura 45 and Dura 55 peristaltic pumps for gentle berry handling, consistent flow, and reliable operation.

  • Outcome: Berries came out intact, preserving quality and fermentation consistency, with long-term pump reliability and increased production capacity

The Challenge

Our customer, who has been working with us for nearly 10 years, had a system where the pumps couldn’t handle the berries gently during the fermentation process. This led to broken berries, flavour degradation, and inconsistent fermentation. They needed a reliable solution that would preserve the integrity of the fruit while supporting the flow needed for large-scale production.

The Solution

To address these challenges, our team recommended the Verderflex Peristaltic Dura 45 and Dura 55 pumps.

These positive displacement pumps offer several benefits, including accurate dosing, self-priming, the ability to run dry, and the capacity to pump viscous fluids.

Two pumps have been running for over 5 years, and three additional pumps were acquired to increase production.

These pumps were chosen for their ability to gently handle the berries, prevent damage, and maintain a steady flow, even through long suction lines and different fermenter sizes.

The Result

The winery’s decision to use peristaltic Dura pumps made a real difference in their fermentation process. With the Dura 45 and Dura 55 pumps, they were able to move the fruit without damaging the berries, helping to preserve the quality and balance of their wines. This significantly improved the consistency of their pump-overs and contributed to the production of exceptional red wines.

They’ve also mounted some of the pumps in a fixed position, making it easy to use them by simply moving the hoses when needed.

Since partnering with Global Pumps, the winery has continued to rely on our expertise to solve complex pumping challenges that other local suppliers couldn’t address.

For those in winemaking and food & beverage production, if you have any questions about troubleshooting or are looking to upgrade your pumps to meet high production demands, leave your message here: consultation. Our team will be happy to assist you.
